Expandable microspheres are a type of thermoplastic hollow polymer sphere composed of a thermoplastic polymer shell and a sealed liquid alkane gas. When the microspheres are heated, the outer shell becomes soft and the internal air pressure increases sharply, causing the microspheres to expand and increase in volume by 80 to 100 times.

The expanded microsphere density can be less than 30 kg/m3 (0.03 g/cm3), making it an ideal lightweight filler and foaming agent for plastics and rubber.

Modern people pursue lightness, comfort, and environmental friendliness, and lightweighting has become a trend. This is particularly prominent in the application of transportation and aerospace components, where low-density materials can help reduce product weight, significantly reduce fuel consumption, and lower costs. At the same time, adding low-density materials during product manufacturing can reduce the amount of raw materials used, which is beneficial for the protection of natural resources.

The density of expandable microspheres is only 1/50 of water, which will significantly reduce the weight of your product. Taking the automotive industry as an example, for every 10% reduction in weight, fuel efficiency can be improved by 6% -8%. This means that for every 100 kilograms reduction in car weight, fuel consumption per 100 kilometers can be reduced by 0.3-0.5 liters. In addition, the use of microspheres can also bring excellent properties such as improving the warpage and shrinkage of injection molded parts, reducing the dielectric constant of materials, and enhancing thermal insulation.
